As the term draws to a close, we have our latest newsletter available for you to read and see what we have been doing. God has blessed us with so many opportunities to go into schools to explore and discuss the Christian faith.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support over this past term.

We are looking forward to a break over Easter and coming back refreshed for the summer term!

We wish you a very happy Easter.

2018 Spring

Weekly Update

During our last full week of the Spring Term, we will be delivering Easter assemblies at Amherst, Hautes Capelles, St Martins and Forest.

Our BOLT clubs are in their final week. We recap what we have taught over the previous nine weeks and finish on talking about how “We Can Be Friends With God!”. We give out cards with reminders of the themes from each week along with the Bible verses that we looked at, encouraging them to look them up. In total we have had about 98 children attend these clubs. It has been great fun, we have enjoyed them and I believe the children have too!

We also have multiple lessons looking at Easter at Vale Primary School with Year 5. Please pray that these go well and that the children enjoy the lessons as well as learn something they didn’t know before about the Easter story.

This week in Senior Lunch Clubs we are having lots of fun! We are setting the students a challenge: who can build the tallest tower out of newspaper and sellotape which can hold a Creme Egg! The winning team of course will all get a Creme Egg! Look out for photos on Instagram (you can follow us ‘Paceguernsey’ on Instagram). We will also be visiting Elizabeth College this week for assemblies on Easter.

Please pray for us as we start to think about next term and planning for future activities.

Weekly Update

Our primary assemblies this week will be looking at Easter and thinking about how some things that we think might be impossible can actually be possible. We use an illustration where we ask if it’s possible to cut a hole in a piece of A4 paper that is big enough for a person to step through. Even though it seems impossible, by cutting it in a certain way it becomes possible! We then look at the death and resurrection of Jesus and how it seems impossible but Christians believe that it is true. We will be taking this assembly to Beechwood, La Mare, Acorn House and Vale Infants this week.

BOLT clubs are into Week 9 looking at “Jesus rose again” where we look at Romans 6:9: “For we know that Christ has been raised from death and will never die again—death will no longer rule over him.” We spend some time asking their opinions on what they think happened to Jesus.

We also have a lesson with Year 4 at Melrose this week, looking at Easter.

Our secondary team are also discussing the Easter Story in their lunch clubs, particularly focussing on the question, “How is the resurrection possible? – What evidence do we have?” We introduce the story by watching this fun video of kids recounting the Easter Story, their ideas are quite amusing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tig2ddQyzb0

Easter is the theme of some of our assemblies this week. At La Mare Senior School, we are focussing on the theme of Salvation. We take inspiration from movies to explain how this concept is often reflected in films. We conclude that the celebration of Easter reminds us of the salvation humanity receives through Jesus’ death and resurrection and this action shows the love that God has for us and the hope of new life.

We are visiting the Grammar School for an assembly on the theme of ‘giving of ourselves’ and we are looking forward to sharing with the students. The team will also be visiting Le Murier School to work with the students to write up their assembly they performed as part of their ASDAN qualification. We really enjoyed working with the students to put together an assembly and are looking forward to sharing with them on how well they did.

Please pray for us as we share the message of Easter.

Weekly Update

It’s hard to imagine that this time last week we were planning ahead for the snow! As the schools were closed Tuesday to Thursday, a lot of out work was cancelled or postponed. We managed to hold our Prayer Spaces day at Notre Dame on Friday which went really well. There will be a blog post shortly on all our recent Prayer Spaces events.

This week, with things back to normal, we will be coming to the end of our series of assemblies on the story of the Paralyzed Man at Hautes Capelles, St Martins and Castel. We will then be moving onto our final assembly of the term, looking at Lent and Easter at St Mary and St Michael, La Houguette, Amherst and Vauvert. Please pray that these go well and that the children engage and enjoy them.

We will also be continuing our OT Mini lessons at Blanchelande and Melrose, plus starting a new course at Beechwood. Because of the snow last week, 16 topics and signs will have to be taught in one lesson at some of these schools in order to finish the course before Easter! Please pray for Phil and Sarah as they deliver these!

We are now on Week 8 in BOLT club looking at “Jesus Died For Us” where we discuss why Jesus died and ask the children to write down something they would like to say sorry for or let go of. They then place them into a magic bag and we say a short prayer. When they open their eyes, the things that they have written down have turned into a sticker that says, “Smile, Jesus Loves You!”

Due to the snow, most of our senior lunch clubs were cancelled last week, therefore we will be continuing with last week’s theme thinking about how faith is putting belief into action. A bit like a bungee jump, you don’t know what it’s really like until you take that step…

This week we will be delivering our assembly on ‘giving of ourselves’ at Blanchelande College. We are really enjoying having the opportunity to share such a great and important message to the students on the Island.

The lessons at Ladies College and Le Murier were also postponed last week due to weather and we hope to reschedule them.

Thank you for your continued support and prayers.

Weekly Update

After the half term break, we’re back in full swing with a busy week. We have three primary assemblies at Amherst, Notre Dame and Melrose. We also have a Prayer Spaces day at Notre Dame, which was meant to be on Tuesday but because of the snow and school closures we are hoping will be later in the week.

BOLT clubs are on week seven, looking at the theme of “Jesus came to do good”. We spend some time looking at who Jesus was and what he did while he was on earth. The children have a chance to tell us what they know about Jesus.

This week we had two new courses of OT Mini planned, at Blanchelande and Beechwood. We will be trying to rearrange one of these because of the snow!

We will also have a lesson on Easter at Melrose this week with Year 4s.

We are looking forward to meeting students in our senior lunch clubs again after a good refreshing half term break. We will be thinking about how faith is putting belief into action. A bit like a bungee jump, you don’t know what it’s really like until you take that step…

Also we will be visiting Ladies College to deliver a series of lessons on the Christian attitude to War. We are looking forward to sharing with them and engaging in discussion on the topic.

Before half term the Y9 students we have been working with at Le Murier  performed their assembly for the lower school students and it was amazing. We are heading there one final time to help them write up and evaluate their performance for their ASDAN qualification. We have really enjoyed this experience.

Finally we are heading to St Sampsons High School to deliver a set of assemblies on the theme of giving, drawing on inspiration from the parable of the Good Samaritan and encouraging them that we can all help others who are in need.

We hope you all enjoy the snow and stay safe and warm!!

Weekly Update

During this last week before half term, we will be at Vale, St Martins, Beechwood, La Mare, Acorn House and Blanchelande primary schools for assemblies. We will also be at St Mary and St Michael and Amherst for their OT Mini assembly, where the students from the last five weeks will perform the 40 hand signs to the rest of the school.

We will be starting a new course of OT Mini at Melrose this week too, please keep the school and the team in your prayers that this goes well and the children enjoy it.

Our BOLT clubs are in Week 6 and looking at “God in 3 parts” where we discuss the Trinity.

This week in senior lunch clubs we will conclude our series on creation, thinking about why the world was created and the purpose God had for humanity on earth. We will be challenging the young people to think about how we can all play our part to help look after the world. We are back at Blanchelande this week doing the final lesson on the Christian view on the causes of evil, how we should respond when bad things happen, and the role of Jesus’ death in dealing with it.

And finally after four weeks of preparation the Le Murier students will lead their assembly for the lower school.  Please remember them in your prayers too.

Weekly Update

We finished our first round of assemblies at Hautes Capelles this week and are starting our second round at St Mary and St Michael, La Houguette, Vale, Vauvert and Forest primary schools. We are now looking at the story of Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man, focusing on the actions of his friends, as they lowered him through the roof. Our assembly starts with a game which involves volunteers trying to walk with a ball between their knees, followed by the story being told. The children help bring the story to life by doing some actions or making some noises when certain words are said. For example when the word “friends” is said, the children shake hands with the person next to them.

The assembly is then summed up by bringing out the actions of the four friends, and how they carried their friend and cared for him. They did not stop until they introduced him to the best friend anyone could have, Jesus.

Our OT Mini courses are coming to an end in their Week 5, where some of the events we look at are the exile and return of Judah, Zerubbabel rebuilding the temple and then the long wait before Christ is born. In the next few weeks the children will perform all 40 hand signs to the rest of their school and receive a certificate marking that they completed the course.

BOLT club is also into Week 5, looking this week at God Hears and Answers our Prayers. We talk about how God might not always answer our prayers straight away in the way that we were expecting but he always hears them, whether we say them in our hearts or out loud.

In senior schools, our mini-series has started well in lunch clubs where we had lots of fun playing a guessing game making things out of Play-doh. We introduced the biblical creation story and laid the foundation that all Christians believe that God created the world. This week we are asking the question ‘what about science?’ exploring whether science and the Bible can ever be compatible when it comes to creation.

We are visiting Elizabeth College this week for a run of assemblies on the theme of giving of ourselves and loving our neighbour, drawing on inspiration from footballers who have used their money or celebrity status to help other people. We conclude that we can all be like the Good Samaritan and help others who are in need. We are also back at La Mare to do our final lesson on the Christian attitude on War. Finally, we are continuing our lessons at Le Murier and this week we have a dress rehearsal before the students lead the assembly in front of their peers.

Weekly Update

This week we will be taking our primary school assembly to Notre Dame and Castel schools. Our BOLT clubs are looking at the theme “God Has Plans for Us”, where we talk about how our skills and abilities are signposts directing us to the paths that God has for our lives.

Our OT Mini courses are on Week 4 and are all going really well. Last week, one student approached Phil before the beginning of a session and said “I’m really enjoying these RE lessons!”

This week in senior lunch clubs we are starting a mini-series on the creation story. We are looking at the account in Genesis 1 and how Christians interpret it; this week is about how God’s creation is a gift. Also we continue our sessions at Le Murier, where the parts for the assembly have now been allocated to the students. This week we will help the students to develop their different roles.

Another exciting opportunity for the senior team this week is a lesson at Blanchelande College on the theme of evil and suffering. We are looking at Christian views on the causes of evil, how we should respond when bad things happen, and the role of Jesus’ death in dealing with it.

Weekly Update

Our week has been busy with primary school assemblies at Amherst, St Mary and St Michael and Le Rondin schools.

In our Year 4 BOLT clubs we have been looking at the theme “God made us special”. We talk about how God made each one of us, and we are all unique. One of the activities encourages the children to look at their thumbprints and create a picture of themselves using their thumbprint as a face.

This week in Senior Lunch Clubs we take on the question of ‘Is Christianity Untrue?’ – looking at the reliability of the Bible!

Last week we had our first session at Le Murier School working with a group of students to put together an assembly based on a Bible story. This work will go towards the students ASDAN qualification. We are looking at the story of Moses and the theme of of overcoming difficult circumstances and having to be brave. We are excited about this opportunity to work with the students.
